Established in 1948
Whitton Precision took it's title from a combination of it's founders' surnames. Len White and Bill Tonks. Both men were already expert toolmakers and their aim from the company's inception was to provide a high quality toolmaking service for industry. An ethos that survives to this day.

Originally working from a small garage in Wandsworth, their reputation spread and the business grew and evolved, seeing them concentrate more on the design and production of precision components and specialised fastenings.

It soon became obvious that they were rapidly outgrowing their premises and it was time to move.

As a result, in 1951, only three years after they started the business in earnest, they rented a portion of the site that the company occupies in Wimbledon to this day.

The enterprise continued to prosper and during the 1950s it began to develop techniques for the production of crinkle washers in beryllium copper and stainless steeel. These unexpectedly provided the company a niche market in which to thrive. It was during this period that Whitton Precision became a Limited Company.

By the early 1960s it was rapidly establishing an enviable reputation both as a manufacturer of Jigs, fixtures and press tools, producing a wide and diverse range of pressed components, as well as a producer and supplier of  British Standard washers and bespoke special fastenings.

The company expanded further and in 1965, Whitton purchased land adjacent to it's rented premises on which it built it's present building.

At it's peak, Whitton employed 85 people and has survived many recessions and the gradual erosion of manufacturing in the UK, testament to it's strength as a company.
Len's daughters now own and run the company with a sense of humour that makes them a delight to deal with, whilst continuing to offer a comprehensive range of products and services both in the UK and overseas. Their presence ensures that the passion their father had for the skills that started this wonderful company are preserved through sentiment, their in-house toolmakers and facilities and in practice. They are currently engaging with young inovators who wish to both develop and manufacture their products in the UK and are working to implement a strong apprenticeship program to re-establish those engineering and manufacturing skills which are at real risk of being lost to the UK completely.

A well equipped toolroom offers specialised facilities including tool manufacture and maintenance together with a press shop offering a capacity up to 80 tonnes.
